Artifact: ITEC 7445 Copyright Presentation for Teachers
The artifact I am using to model and facilitate the safe, healthy, legal and ethical uses of digital information and technologies is the copyright presentation professional learning presentation I created for ITEC 7445. The purpose of this artifact was to provide information for teachers on academic uses for technology and digital tools and review the Fair Use Policy.
This artifact supports the modeling and facilitation of safe, healthy, legal and ethical uses of digital information and technologies in various ways. This presentation models and facilitates dialogue and discussion about the Copyright and Fair Use of digital resources to promote safety and ethical digital practices through a question and answer style. The information in this professional learning also provides teachers with knowledge of legal limitations and uses are for printed material. This is extremely helpful when using material in the classroom to support instruction. To promote healthy, safe, legal and ethical use of digital tools and resources in the classroom environment, the presentation also cover various scenarios for teachers to work through and determine if Fair Use covers these actions. There are detailed explanations and plenty of time for questions and comments from staff members. At the end of the presentation, there are links, resources and more information for those seeking to learn more. The slides serve as a tool for understanding Fair Use and Copyright to support safe, healthy, legal and ethical uses of digital information and technologies.
After completing this professional learning presentation, I become more aware of the legal rights pertaining to technology use for teachers. Not only was I able to share information about Fair Use and Copyright Policies to help teachers be ethical and safe in their practice. When you are using material that does not belong to you, it is important to understand that asking to use the material and citing the material is ethical. This in turn passes through to our students.
Faculty development is the focus of this Copyright presentation. Creating this professional learning, centers on improving teachers knowledge about Fair Use and Copyright laws. School improvement begins with teachers. When educators are aware of the ethical, safe, healthy and legal uses of technologies, this knowledge spreads to students. In turn, students become aware of ethical and safe use for technology in and outside the classroom.
