Artifact: ITEC 7460 Illuminate Education Assessment Tool Professional Learning Website
The artifact I am using to develop and implement technology-based professional learning that aligns to state and national professional learning standards, integrates technology to support face-to-face and online components, models principles of adult learning and promotes best practices in teaching, learning and assessment is the Illuminate Education Workshop Training I completed in ITEC 7460. The purpose of this workshop is to provide professional learning for teachers to support their knowledge of assessment use, navigation and the creation of assessments using this digital tool.
This artifact supports the development and implementation of integrated technology-based professional learning that models principles of adult learning, best practices in learning, teaching and assessment with a website resource for teachers that encompasses face-to-face and online components for assessment use. The training also aligns to the national professional learning standards by utilizing an assessment tool to track student achievement for content standards and encourage instructional decisions. Throughout the workshop, teachers guide their learning of the assessment tool by practicing the modeling. Teachers learn by doing and create assessments during their time that support their content standards. Grade level teams complete the tasks with their colleagues with support from the workshop facilitator. An agenda keeps everyone on schedule and all of the resources support the principles of adult learning by resources and tools to take away from the workshop. Teachers use these assessments to integrate new styles of questioning into their mini-lessons and quick checks. Best-practices in teaching, learning and assessment support the use of face-to-face and online components to assessment and learning. Illuminate Ed. allows teachers to assess their students on content standards, while providing data to guide their face-to-face instruction and flexible groupings. Having Illuminate Ed. in your toolbox enables you to make sound educational decisions to support student achievement. This training provides videos and tutorials, ensuring teachers walk away with a strategy to support assessment and learning.
After the completion of this workshop, I had a better understanding of the time it takes to develop a teacher training. Teachers need to see models, videos, participate in collaborative inquiry of new tools and have time for discussions. This workshop was not perfect and it allows for improvements in this area. I now understand how to structure a workshop and I was thrilled to have a resource for teachers to go back to in the future. The evaluation was also very helpful in making improvements to the presentation.
Staff development correlates directly to professional learning. When teachers have time to practice a new tool and really engage with the intentional use of assessment data, they are more likely to implement because it is accessible and familiar. School improvement occurs when these ideas spread to all staff. This tool supports assessment across all grade levels and website resources enables teachers to learn the tool with ease.
