Over the last year, I have been working towards my instruction technology degree. I have been so impressed by this program and its learning objectives. If I could describe my experience in one word, it would be challenging. I have felt challenged at every moment. I choose this program because it is an area of growth for me as an educator. I have learned many valuable and rewarding skills in my Educational Research course (ITEC 7470).
The most valuable work has been the study of the research process and its role in education. I have learned an abundance of information about different types of research, how to analyze research and the various components of the research process in a magnitude of scenarios. This information is useful when you seek new strategies and meaningful ways to reach our students. Data collection and analysis drives the work we do each day in the world of education. Our students matter and their success matters. This research is a critical practice of those who strive to continue to learn and grow in their profession. This will be an extremely valuable tool in my belt as I persevere in this challenging career.
Next, I would like to mention how much I have had to apply my new skills in research. The Capstone proposal has been an ongoing assignment throughout this course. Suffice it to say that this is a rewarding and insightful process that requires the connections and reflection needed from educators today. It encompasses so many different skills. Research, leadership and above all reflection of practice. What steps need to be taken, how will you assess your objectives and why are certain decisions being made in your practice? These are among some of the questions I consider as I complete this proposal and reflect on my practice each day.
This has been a rewarding and insightful experience. I look forward to seeing how the next courses connect to my new skills that I have acquired over the last several months as a “consumer of research”.
